We packed up our rented Mercedes van and hit the road taking the E35 from Lamporecchio, Italy in Tuscany to Rome.
We wanted get breakfast on the road to save time. We saw the golden arches of McDonald’s once we hit the highway and followed the signs to get our McMuffins. It was 10:00 a.m and it was closed. We went to get some to-go or “take away” coffees but instead we found several people sitting at the counter slowly enjoying cappuccinos and talking to local law enforcement. Everyone was engaged in conversation and taking a time out, a real rest stop. It wasn’t like some crazy scene at a rest stop off the Jersey Turnpike. People were relaxing. I give them credit for slowing down and truly enjoying the journey.
